The correct walking sneaker / walking shoe can absolutely make or break your 20 minute workout. If you are wearing walking sneakers or shoes that makes your feet ache or gives you blisters, you will not take pleasure in your walk and you can run the risk of injury. Walks should be pleasurable and productive, so when searching for the perfect walking sneaker keep this criteria in mind:

1. Walking sneakers must have a firm heel. Your heel gets the most impact, so you should pick a sneaker that has some sort of shock guard to protect it.
2. Make sure you have enough to room to move your toes comfortably without pinching.
3. Look for a cushioned collar and cushioned tongue to protect more sensitive areas of the foot and to fasten the fit.
4. Velcro walking shoes aid in securing the fit and are easy to put on.
5. If you want walking shoes, buy walking shoes, if you want running, buy running and so on. There really is a difference between the fit and efficiency.

By using a pedometer, you can track the amount of steps you take per day to help you reach your distance goals whether it be one mile or five miles.

The recommended amount of steps per day is 10,000 steps or approximately 5 miles. But this is only in theory. Here is some of the latest information Dr. Catrine Tudor-Locke recommends:

Classification of pedometer-determined physical activity in healthy adults:

1) Under 5000 steps/day may be used as a “sedentary lifestyle index”
2) 5,000-7,499 steps/day is typical of daily activity excluding sports/exercise and might be considered “low active.”
3) 7,500-9,999 likely includes some exercise or walking (and/or a job that requires more walking) and might be considered “somewhat active.”
4) 10,000 steps/day indicates the point that should be used to classify individuals as “active”.
5) Individuals who take more than 12,500 steps/day are likely to be classified as “highly active”.

The cost of typical pedometers ranges from $10 to $25. Many pedometers include a calorie burner approximation and a step counter. Your pedometer will be used to track the number of calories burned during your workout and how far you have walked during this workout. Keep the pedometer on and continue to track your steps rest of your day. Common brand name pedometers include Omron, Oregon Scientific and Sportline.

So, do you need an upscale pedometer? That’s up too you. You may not need a fancy talking, a digital, or calorie counter pedometer with lots of extras. You can purchase a simple $10 pocket or wrist pedometer that will track your steps just as effectively. Whatever your choice may be, you will be well on your way to improving your health.

If yes? Then Let’s get started! Fitness racewalking is not your typical fitness mall walking!

If you decide to train and enter a racewalk, know that these competitions are judged. Not only are they judged, but there are also warnings if you violate the rules. A judge can warn you, and if he or she has too, they will disqualify you for breaking either of these two rules.

(1) Racewalkers knees must be straight when their foot strikes the ground and remain straight until their body passes over that foot.
(2) One foot must be on the ground at all times when walking.

If a racewalker violates the first rule it is called creeping and if a race walker violates the 2nd rule it is called lifting. In racewalking, you have to wear shorts so the judge can see your knees. Judges tend to be tough on enforcing the rules but they can be very helpful before and after the race.

If you feel racewalking competitions are not for you don’t worry! If you want to racewalk and enter a less competitive competition, thing about entering a 5K, 10K, or longer road race and racewalk it. Just check the road race application before submitting it. If there is a racewalking division, check that off if you will use racewalking techniques throughout. And if there is a walking division with prizes, don’t enter that event if you are going to racewalk any part of the race.

Please check the link fitness racewalking for some great training tools.
